Nine-year-old Joseph Levi is a hero. Joseph, from Bal Harbor in South Florida, America, saved his baby brother with quick thinking and quick reflexes. But he doesn’t see it that way. He thinks it was a miracle.
His 11-month-old brother was on a changing table in his diapers. The table was the height of a kitchen bench. His mother, Tila, was getting her five children ready for bed. She was standing next to the changing table and turned to assist one of her children. In that split second, the baby rolled over and fell.
Joseph was some distance away, but ran swiftly and caught his brother centimetres from the ground by catching him with both hands and sliding underneath him to break the fall until his mother assisted him. It was captured on the family’s surveillance camera.
Joseph said to the Associated Press reporter, ‘I would never have caught him, and I can’t run that fast, so I felt like something came and just pushed me forward. When that happened, I just ran and caught him.’
He added, ‘I’ll never be able to do that again ‘cos I can’t carry my brother. Miracles can happen, always, but since this time it was me I’m really thankful.’ His mother thinks he’s a hero.
