Rami Malek will play the villain in the next James Bond film, No Time to Die, to be released in November 2020. He will play supervillain Safin.
The audience will know Malek from his award-winning role as Freddy Mercury, the lead singer of the rock band Queen in the 2018 movie biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. The role led to several awards, such as an Oscar at the Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and the British Academy Film Award for best actor.
Rami Malek is the first actor of Egyptian heritage to win the Academy Award for best actor. He said in September 2018, ‘There’s no first-generation, or second-generation removed. I am Egyptian … I feel so gorgeously tied to the culture and the human beings that exist there … It is the fabric of who I am.’
Rami Said Malek, born on 12 May 1981, is an America actor and producer. He studied theatre at the University of Evansville in New York, before returning to Los Angeles in California, where he was born and raised with his twin brother Sami and older sister Yasmine. In his school years, as a way of coping with self-identity confidence challenges, he created characters and voices.
After meeting casting director Mali Finn, he moved from Los Angeles to Hollywood where he made his income from delivering pizzas and working in restaurants while auditioning for acting parts. His first role was in the television sitcom Gilmore Girls in 2003.
It was in 2010 when he secured his first major movie role as the Egyptian coven vampire Benjamin in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. But his breakthrough role was back in television in the 2015-2019 series Mr. Robot, as computer hacker Elliot Alderson. He received great acclaim, with Entertainment Weekly describing his portrayal as a ‘magnetic performance.’
Malek said to the New Yorker in 2018, ‘The fact that Rami Malek got to play the lead character, called Ellio Alderson, in Mr. Robot was somewhat of a coup, I think. I never saw that possibility when I was younger.’ It was the first time he was regarded as a ‘leading man’ for potential acting roles.
Rami Malek’s role as Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody resulted in the movie being the highest-grossing musical biographical film of all-time.
In 2015 Malek featured in the GQ Men of the Year issue in its 20thanniversary of the Men of the Year magazine issue.
